Srisailam liegt mitten in den dichten und unwegsamen Waeldern der Nallamalai Huegel, die sich im nord-oestlichen Teil des Nandikotur Taluk im Distrikt Kurnool befinden.Diese Stadt, die sich im Nallamalai Wald, am Ufer des Flusses Krishna befindet, liegt in einer Entfernung von 232 km (suedlich) von Hyderabad.Die Nandyal Eisenbahnstation ist 73 km entfernt.

Beschreibung:

Am suedlichen Ufer des Flusses, auf einem 457 m hohen Huegel befindet sich der Bhramarambha Mallikarjunaswamy Tempel.Die hauptgottheit hier, Sri Mallikarunjaswamy, ist eins der 12 Jyothirlingams Indiens.Der Tempel wird von einer Befestigungsanlage mit 6 m hohen Mauern geschuetzt.Innerhalb des Tempels gibt es noch eine Anzahl kleinerer Tempel, z.B. Sahasra Linga, Panchapandava und Vata Vriksha.In der Naehe gibt es noch ein interessantes Wasserkraftwerk mit einer 512 langen Staumauer.
