Uparkot Fort

Description:
Die Stadt erhielt ihren Namen von diesem Fort.In vergangenen Zeiten war es beruehmt fuer seine Unbezwingbarkeit, die Mauern sind bis zu 20 m hoch.Der Weg in die Ruine fuehrt durch ein aufwaendig gestaltetes Tor.Hier stehen eine alte Moschee und eine Kanone, mit Namen Nilam Toph, die damals vom Nawab von Diu erstanden wurde.Ausserdem kann man hier noch den Zwei-Stufen Brunnen, die Jama Masjid und buddhistische Hoehlen besuchen.Man sagt, dass das Fort einmal 12 Jahre lang belagert wurde und es insgesamt 16 Mal unter Belagerung stand.Zwischen dem 7. und dem 10. Jahrhundert stand das Fort verlassen und wurde voellig vom Dschungel ueberwuchert.
