Hoch auf einem steilen Hügel über dem Dorf Trimbak, 33 km westlich von Nashik, ist die Quelle des heiligen Godavari Flusses, des Ganges des Südens. Ruhig tropft von hier der Fluss ins Badebecken Ganga Sagar, dessen Wasser alle Sünden hinwegspülen und die Seele wieder reinigen soll. Von diesem kleinen Anfang fließt Godavari in Richtung Ost-Südost quer durch den Süden der indischen Halbinsel ins Golf von Bengal. In Trimbak ist auch der Trimbakeshwar Tempel, einer der 12 Jyotirlingas (wichtigste Shiva-Stätten) im Lande. Der Tempel ist kaum 8 km von der Stadt Nashik.
