Dieses ebnete den Weg fuer die Nayaks, die dann an die Macht kamen und Madurai gehoerte auch zu ihrem Einzugsgebiet.Die Stadt und auch die Dynastie erlebten ihre Bluetezeit vom 16. bis zum 18. Jahrhundert.Dieser Palast wurde von Thirumalai Nayak einen Kilometer sued-oestlich vom Tempel errichtet.Er wurde im indisch-sarazenischen Stil erbaut, aber heute sind nur noch der Haupteingang, die Tanzhalle und die Haupthalle erhalten.Die Hauptattraktion bildet jetzt die Sound-und-Light-Show, die Szenen aus dem Leben Thirumalai Nayaks abbildet und auch Einblicke in das alte Tamil-Epos Silappathikaram bietet.
