Kaum ein paar Kilometer von der Stadtmitte liegt die internationale Grenze zwischen Indien und Bangladesch. Zur Zeit der Unabhängigkeit (1947) wurde Indien geteilt, und Bangladesch war bis 1971 Ost-Pakistan. 1971 trennte sich Ost-Pakistan und wurde zu dem unabhängigen Land Bangladesch. Die Dörfer und den Alltag jenseits der Grenze kann man sich leicht ansehen.
