Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary

Dieses aus dem Jahr 1984 stammende Reservat ist das einzige seiner Art im Distrikt Kollam.Es liegt am Fluss Shendurney, hat eine Ausdehnung von 250 qkm und geniesst weltweit einen guten Ruf fuer seine Artenvielfalt.Ueber den Fluss hat man den Parappar Damm gebaut, um die Distrikte Kollam und Pathanamthitta bewaessern zu koennen.Der Stausee hat eine Flaeche von 13.72 qkm.Im Sommer hat man hier Temperaturen bis 35`C, im Winter wird es mit 16`C kalt.Der jawehrliche Niederschlag betraegt 3200 mm.Die Landschaft ist rauh mit einigen Erhebungen zwischen 90 bis 1550m.
