Ganz im Norden des Bundesstaates Uttar Pradesh liegt die Kleinstadt Gorakhpur, die eine wichtige Station fuer Reisende auf dem Landweg von Nepal nach Indien darstellt.Die Stadt ist nach dem grossen Heiligen Baba Goraknath benannt, und diese winzige Stadt nennt einen dem Heiligen gewidmeten, riesigen Tempel ihr eigen.Der Geburtsort des grossen Gottes Buddha liegt auf der anderen Seite der Grenze in Lumbini.Gorakhpur und Lumbini liegen nur 100 km auseinander.Dieser Ort ist fuer Buddhisten von grosser Bedeutung, da man andere wichtige Orte wie Varanasi (ca 212 km) und Kushinagar ( 67 km) gut erreichen kann und hier mit dem Grenzuebergang nach Nepal den ganzen buddhistischen Sektor abdeckt.
