RIVERINE WOODS, CORBETT
- Address:Corbett National ParkPlace:CorbettCountry:IndiaZip Code:0
- Description:
Riverine Woods (formerly known as Vanghat River Lodge) - far from any human habitation, is nestled deep in the awe
inspiring picturesque Ramganga valley. It is surrounded by hills that are wildlife rich forests of Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). The lodge is located on the banks of the Ramganga river - the lifeline of Corbett. The lodge is for anglers, wildlife enthusiasts, bird watchers and nature lovers. The envious location of the lodge affords long walks in the wild country and unexplored territories, the experience of which is enhanced by some of the finest and most experienced Gillies and
naturalists of our area.
The lodge is a product of a community-based tourism initiative that promotes sport-fishing for the famed Golden Mahseer and Goonch in our own exclusive river beat (and in what glorious scenery we find him, the USP of sport-fishing in the Himalayan foothill forest); wildlife safaris in CTR; extensive bird-watching tours that cover diverse habitats viz. grasslands, broadleaf tropical forest and high altitude forest of conifers & oak and walking safaris in the adjoining buffer forests of the CTR and high altitude parks of the Kumaon and Garhwal region - perhaps the only ones to be conducted in the region.
As a guest you’ll be happy to know that a part of your spending is directly shared with local communities.
The rustle of the breeze in the adjoining forests, the call of the birds and monkeys, the rumble of the river as it goes over rapids, and at night sitting around a camp-fire and listening to the occasional alarm calls of the sambar and barking deer, provides an unforgettable dimension to the ambience. Riverine Woods provides a unique experience for the nature lover and easily ranks as one of the wildest jungle lodges of India.
If you let the lodge know in advance what interests you in the wild - birds, fish, mammals,
Dining: The Dining Hall is located at a vantage point and is a marvel of traditional masonry. Stonework fascinatingly bounded with mud has been erected on hardwood logs to make it a room with a view! A thatched roof helps in regulating the temperatures. The dining hall offers fantastic views of the surrounding landscape while you enjoy a wholesome meal. Several species of birds and Ghoral (mountain goat) on the massive rock faces are a usual sight to behold.
Books & Writing: The Dining Hall also has a library well-stocked with books on wildlife, especially on bird and game fishing. We have hosted several writers who have found Riverine Woods an invigorating place to catch up on their reading and writing.
Live Bait: A thatched structure closer to the river, amidst a thicket of the Flame of the Forest and Rohini trees, it hosts our campfire get-togethers and is a great place to spend the evening at.
Food and Drinks: Most of our visitors have been pleasantly surprised by the sumptuous fare our cooks dish out ‘in the middle of nowhere’! A variety of mostly Indian and some continental dishes are served with utmost emphasis on hygiene, freshness of the food and ingredients. We totally understand the culinary preferences of our guests and do justice to both the European stomach and the demands of spiced-up Indian guests.
Since we cater to a limited number of visitors, you are most welcome to order a dish of your choice. Regulars to India / hardy travelers are encouraged to try local (Pahari Khana) cuisine that comprises of fruits and roots from the forest, delicious stinging nettles, wild figs, fern shoots and smoked (under-cooked) goat or country chicken.
In the evenings we love to over indulge - a fire is lit in the ‘Live Bait’ thatch where you may enjoy a variety of dri - Total Rooms:
