Dieses war das Zentrum der Hangal Kadambas,die die Feudalherren Chalukya Kalyanas waren.In alten Aufzeichnungen ist es als Panungal erwaehnt und wird in Verbindung mit den Traditionen Viratanagaras der Mahabharatazeit gebracht.Hanagal liegt auf der rechten Uferseite des Flusses Dharma.Unbedingt sehenswert ist der Tarakeshwaratempel,der wunderschoene Abbildungen und zahlreiche polierte Chalukya- Saeulen besitzt. Weitere Tempel sind Virabhadra, Bileshwara,Ramalinga und andere.Hier gibt es auch ein beruehmtes Veerashaiva Kumaraswamy Matha.
