Die beiden Daemonenbrueder, Chanda und Munda, sorgten einst fuer viel Aerger.Es fiel der Goettin Durga zu, die beiden zu beseitigen.Sie tat dies, indem sie ihre Augenbrauen hochzog und so eine andere Form ihrerselbst, die ,der Goettin Kali annahm.Kali brachte die Daemonen um und seitdem wird die Goettin auch Chamunda genannt.Dieser uralte Tempel, der 25 km von Palampur entfernt ist, ist ihr gewidmet.
