Der Baneshwar Tempel

Description:
Ein wahrlich altertümlicher Shiva Tempel, etwa 10 von der Stadt Coochbehar. Der Baneshwar Tempel soll mehr als 3000 Jahre alt sein (etwa 1100 v.C.). Das Shivalingam (Zeichen Shivas) befindet sich fast 3 m unter der Plinthe. Neben dem Haupttempel steht ein anderer mit einem Gottesbild von Ardhanarinateswar. An zwei Festtagen im Jahr (madan chaturdashi und dol purnima) wird dieses Gottesbild zu dem Madan Mohan Tempel in der Stadt getragen. Daher heißt es auch der bewegliche Baneshwar! Der große Teich in der Tempelanlage hat viele sehr alte Schildkröten, die man mit Puffreis füttern kann.
