Dieses Städtchen war einst die Hauptstadt des Bahamani und später des Itmadshahi Königreiches. Bavani, ein Theatergebäude aus dieser Zeit, steht heute zwar in Ruinen, aber es bietet Einsicht in den kulturellen Reichtum dieses Ortes.
Die erste ländliche, auf einheimischer Technologie basierte Textilfabrik wurde in Paratwada unter der Herrschaft der Briten gegründet. Als Versandte des Nizams von Hyderabad waren die Briten im 19. Jahrhundert hier an der Macht.
